Watch: Australia Make 2 DRS Blunders As Rohit Sharma Gets Huge Reprieves

India captain Rohit Sharma received multiple reprieves as Australia made two huge DRS blunders on Day 1 of the ongoing third Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The incident happened on the first ball of the match as Rohit had knicked Mitchell Starc's delivery behind to Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey. On the fourth ball, Starc's inswinging delivery had clipped Rohit's pad. The replay showed that Rohit was out on both occasions. While Starc made a half-hearted appeal on both occasions, Australia stand-in captain Steve Smith decided against taking the DRS.

Rohit, however, was eventually dismissed on 12 by Matt Kuhnemann.

Earlier, India captain Rohit won the toss and elected to bat on Wednesday as his side look to clinch the series in their third Test against Australia in Indore.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the four-match series to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have made two changes to the team that won in Delhi.

Opening batsman Shubman Gill replaced struggling KL Rahul, who has been stripped of the vice-captaincy.

Fast bowler Umesh Yadav came in for the rested Mohammed Shami.

Australia also made two changes after skipper Pat Cummins returned home to his seriously ill mother.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc replaced Cummins while Cameron Green came in for David Warner, who was ruled out of the remaining two matches with a fractured elbow and concussion.

Steve Smith captains the tourists in place of Cummins.

India need one win in the final two matches to reach the World Test Championship final in June at The Oval.

Memes Galore On Twitter As KL Rahul Gets Dropped From India's Playing XI

Young opening batter Shubman Gill got his much-deserved place in India's playing XI as the team management decided to drop out of form batter KL Rahul from the team for the ongoing third Test against Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Rahul, who managed score of 20, 17 and 1 in the three innings so far, has been under the scanner for his low returns with the bat. Rahul's exclusion from the team sparked a meme fest on social media as fans took to Twitter to address the issue.

Here's how Twitter reacted:

After announcing India's playing XI, India captain Rohit did not reveal the reason behind Rahul's exclusion.

"We will have a bat first. It is a pretty good dressing room and like you said the morale is high. The guys are confident about their skills which is a good thing moving forward. We have played a lot of cricket (here) but this one (surface) is slightly different. Looks little dry and you have to adapt your skills and be at it all the time. We are there yet (WTC final) and we have to come and win this game, we have to try and repeat the things we did in the first two Tests. It is important to stay present. We have made two changes - Gill has come in place of KL. We have rested Shami, Umesh comes in place of him," Rohit said at the toss.

India also decided to rest pace bowler Mohammed Shami, bringing in Umesh Yadav for the game.

However, India lost five early wickets in the opening session. Matt Kuhnemann dismissed Rohit Sharma (12), Shubman Gill (21) and Shreyas Iyer (0), while Nathan Lyon got the better of Cheteshwar Pujara (1) and Ravindra Jadeja (4).

Australia also made two changes to the side that lost the second Test by six wickets in New Delhi, bringing in pace-bowling stalwart Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green in place of Pat Cummins and David Warner, who have both returned home.

Rahul Dropped, Gill Included In 3rd Test vs Australia. What Rohit Said

KL Rahul has been dropped from India's playing XI in the third Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a prolonged lean patch. Youngster Shubman Gill has been included in KL Rahul's place in the XI. Rahul, who was named vice captain for the first two Tests, scored just 38 runs in the series. The opener has scores of 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17 and 1 in his last seven innings. Rahul last scored a Test half-century in January, 2022 against South Africa in Johannesburg. His last Test ton came against the same opponents in December 2021.

Shubman, on the other hand, has scored 736 runs in 13 Tests with one tons and four half-centuries. He has been in great form and recently scored a double ton in ODIs too. He is one of the few Indian players to have a ton in all formats.

India captain Rohit Sharma said that there were two changes in the India playing XI from the second Test. He specifically mentioned while Mohammed Shami was rested to make way for Umesh Yadav, Shubman Gill came 'in place of' Rahul.

We have rested Shami, Umesh comes in place of him," Rohit said.

Australia stand-in captain Steve Smith said: "Looks pretty dry and no surprises Rohit decided to bat first. Hopefully we can execute our skills early and out the Indian batters under pressure. It (break) came in at a good time for us, obviously disappointing how we ended the last Test match and the guys have had time to reflect, rest and get back into preparation. Just stick to our methods for longer periods, we went away from it especially in the second innings in the last game. We are thinking about Patty, his mum's unwell and he has had to go home."

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Srikar Bharat(w), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj

Australia (Playing XI): Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith(c), Peter Handscomb, Cameron Green, Alex Carey(w), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Matthew Kuhnemann

R Ashwin On Cusp Of Surpassing Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev For Major Milestones

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is on the cusp of some major milestones as India face Australia in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore. Ashwin is eight wickets away from equaling the tally of Anil Kumble's 111 wickets in Tests against Australia and become the joint highest wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia's Nathan Lyon is nine wickets away from equaling the tally of Anil Kumble's 111 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ashwin is also two wickets away from surpassing Kapil Dev's tally of 687 wickets in international cricket.

Also, Virat Kohli is 77 runs away from completing 4000 runs in Tests at home. Rohit Sharma is 57 runs away from completing 2000 runs in Tests at home. The India captain is 80 runs away from completing 3000 runs in international cricket as captain.

Virat has been a pillar of India's home domination ever since he hit the international cricket scene in 2008. In 199 matches at home so far, he has scored 10,829 runs in 221 innings at an average of 58.22. He has scored 34 centuries and 51 half-centuries at home, with the best score of 254*.

However this time around, the pressure will be on Virat, who has been searching for big runs in the longer format since 2020. His numbers for 2020 (116 runs in three matches at an average of 19.33 with one fifty in six innings), 2021 (536 runs in 11 matches at an average of 28.21 with four fifties in 19 innings) and 2022 (265 in six matches at an average of 26.50 with one fifty in 11 innings) are too underwhelming for someone of his stature.

However, Virat looked in complete control during his short innings of 44 and 20 runs in both innings of the second Test in Delhi and Team India would hope that their biggest batting star will end his three-year-long drought of big runs, which will also boost India's chances to qualify for ICC World Test Championship finals, to be played in London from June 7 onwards.

Virat has managed 76 runs in three innings in this series at an average of 25.33.

West Indies Fight Back After Aiden Markram Century For South Africa

Aiden Markram hit a century on his return to Test cricket but the West Indies mounted a strong fightback on the first day of the first Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park on Tuesday. Markram made 115 in a South Africa total of 314 for eight. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph spearheaded the West Indian bowling attack, taking three for 60. South Africa looked set to take full control when they reached 221 for one after new captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat.

But they lost seven more wickets before the close while adding another 93 runs, with the West Indian bowlers finding swing, lateral movement and more consistency with the old ball.

An opening partnership of 141 between Markram and former captain Dean Elgar (71) was followed by a stand of 80 between Markram and new cap Tony de Zorzi. The left-handed De Zorzi was looking comfortable before he was run out for 28.

De Zorzi punched a ball from Joseph through the covers and completed a confortable two runs.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul made a good sliding stop and De Zorzi was sent back after setting off for an unlikely third.

Chanderpaul's throw was off target but wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva cleverly flicked the ball into the stumps.

Bavuma, on his first appearance as South Africa's first Black African captain, was leg before wicket for nought to a full ball from Joseph two balls later and Joseph struck again when he yorked Markram.

Markram was dropped last year after a poor run of form in which he went 15 innings without a half-century, with only two scores above 30. He had not made a hundred since scoring 108 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in February 2021.

After a watchful start, he was soon into his stride, hitting 18 fours in a 174-ball innings, studded by his trademark cover drives and powerful pull shots.

Elgar, who was stripped of the captaincy after South Africa were heavily beaten on tours of England and Australia, made 71 off 118 balls.

Two of Elgar's 11 fours were ramp shots over the slips but in trying to hit a third boundary in that fashion he fell to a leaping catch by Jermaine Blackwood at third man off Joseph.

Blackwood earlier put down a sharp chance at third slip off Kyle Mayers when he was on 10.

The South African team showed five changes from the side that played in the third Test of a losing series in Australia in January with De Zorzi and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee both handed their first caps.

The West Indies made one change from the side that beat Zimbabwe by an innings and four runs in Bulawayo earlier this month.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who took 13 wickets in the win in Bulawayo, had a back injury and was replaced by fast bowler Kemar Roach.

"Don't Need Three Spinners: Ex-Australia Star Ahead Of 3rd Test vs India

Former Australian pacer Michael Kasprowicz wants his side to play to its strengths and go for a three-pronged pace attack in Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green and Scott Boland for the third Test against India at Indore beginning on Wednesday. Australia had gone into the second Test in New Delhi with just one pacer in skipper Pat Cummins and three specialist spinners and still lost the match by six wickets to concede a series-retaining 0-2 lead to India.

"I don't mind (three quicks) -- and I'm going out on a limb here I suppose -- not taking India on in the spin department," Kasprowicz told SEN Radio, batting for the inclusion of Boland.

Boland could not take a single wicket in the first Test at Nagpur, but was economical conceding 34 runs from 17 overs.

Boland was dropped for the Delhi Test with Australia opting for a spin-heavy attack in Lyon, Murphy and Kuhnemann.

"We don't need three spinners, if it's (Todd) Murphy or (Matthew) Kunhemann (with Nathan Lyon), I reckon get Boland in there." "The reason why is, he'll (Boland) build up pressure from one end," said the veteran of 113 Test wickets.

"So, from the other end -- as we saw in that first Test with Murphy -- he (Murphy) was able to take wickets because they weren't scoring (off Boland). We've got to look to do something else." The 51-year-old, who represented Australia in 38 Tests and was part of the 2004-05 series that last won in India, further batting allrounder said Green becomes an obvious choice to replace opener David Warner.

"Coming up to this Test match with the line-up, Cameron Green is going to be picked.

"You'll have Starc in for (Pat) Cummins for other reasons he (Cummins) can't be there. Green will come into the middle order, he may come in for (David) Warner with the changes there," he added.

Both Green and Starc are expected to be in the playing XI after missing the first two Tests due to finger injuries.

With captain Cummins returning home to attend to his ailing mother, Starc is expected to spearhead the pace attack.

Need "Your And Virat's Wickets," Says Pakistan Star. Leaves Babar Laughing

Babar Azam and Virat Kohli are two hot properties in world cricket currently. The star batters are always the prized scalps of rival teams. Dismissing them means putting a big dent in their respective teams' chances. While Kohli was the captain of the Indian team, Babar is the current skipper of the Pakistan cricket team. With the ODI World Cup in a few months' time in India, the duo's performance will be crucial for their side if they are to leave a big impact. Needless to say, their wickets will be in demand.

However, it's not only the rivals who are gunning for Babar's scalp. In a video posted by Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Lahore Qalandars, Pakistan pacer can be seen indulging in a funny chat with Babar. The conversation goes as below:

Haris Rauf: "No matter what happens, I just need to take your wicket. Only you and Kohli are the exception now. Williamson was saved from slip twice but these three-four players are in my mind."

Babar Azam: "But you already got me in practice sessions. Why don't you consider those?"

Haris rauf: "Nah. I need your wicket in the match."

Babar Azam: "May Allah does well with all."

Recently, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar backed spinner Shahab Khan to replace Babar Azam as the captain of the national side in the future.  "Shadab is a very smart kid when it comes to cricket skills. He wants to improve, which is a very good thing. He is ready to accept his mistakes and rectify them. In past two years, he has worked very hard on his bowling and his fitness has improved as well. He wants to look good and speak well. In times to come, he is not a bad option for captaincy for Pakistan in white-ball cricket," Akhtar was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Dhoni "Replaced Me...": India Star On Being Legendary Captain's Understudy

MS Dhoni's rise started a new chapter in Indian cricket. The youngster from Ranchi, Jharkhand, who rose to become a giant in world cricket is an inspiration to many. A few months before Dhoni's debut for India in December, 2004, against Bangladesh, another wicketkeeper-batter started his journey for the Men in Blue. His name was Dinesh Karthik. He made his debut in an ODI against England at Lord's in September, 2004. However, Dhoni's dominance was such that Karthik soon became an understudy of the former India skipper.

While Dhoni went on to win three ICC title as India captain, Karthik worked hard and is still playing at the top level. He even played the 2022 T20 World Cup for India. Recently, Karthik shared his thoughts on making his debut at a time when Dhoni-mania was just starting.

"I made my debut before him. We went together on an India A tour and from there I got picked for the Indian team, he was still there in India A team," Karthik said on the RCB podcast

"That was the first time I played a four-day match together with him. I did so well that they picked me for the Indian team. From there, they went on another trip, there was a ODI tournament where he just blasted it. People stood up and said there is nobody like him. They said he's a special player. Obviously I came to the Indian team, but by then the Dhoni mania was so big that you had to pick him. He then replaced me in all formats and he did very well. At the end of the day, it is all about taking opportunities. You got to be ready to take opportunities.

"I was chasing excellence. I was constantly on the path of becoming the best cricketer in the world. Dhoni was there, he wasn't there – that wasn't my lookout. He was doing very well for himself. I knew that he had settled in all team. He made no mistake at the start. They sent him up an order, he got a hundred in ODI. He then went to Test cricket and scored 85. He kept brilliantly. Most importantly, he became a brand overnight. People were after him. He was hugely popular sportsperson right from the outset. I was always the understudy but I was always on the lookout for opportunities, doing something special."

Karthik is now gearing up for the Indian Premier League, where he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dhoni is also preparing for the IPL for Chennai Super Kings.

"Mentally They Are Very Fragile": Harbhajan Singh Takes Swipe At Australia

With Australia trailing India 0-2 in the four-match Test series, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has labelled the visitors as a 'mentally fragile' side. With the the third Test starting in Indore on Wednesday, India have a chance to go 3-0 up and clinch the series. The hosts have already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, thanks to the Australian batters inability to tackle India's spin trio -- Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. Harbhajan feels that the Australian team, which is currently in India, has looked "clueless" at times.

"If you compare to other Australian teams which toured earlier - we don't want to go 30-40 years back but even if we go that far - I think this is probably the weakest team. Not in terms of skills, mentally they are very fragile. They are not able to handle pressure the way the Aussies used to. It'll be fair to say this is not the Aussie-Aussie kind of team that we used to see or play against," Harbhajan told The Indian Express in an interview.

Harbhajan, who announced his retirement from the sport last year, said that Australia have always been a tactically sound cricketing nation, but the current side has looked "clueless", since arriving in India.

"The Aussies used to have a lot of plans before touring any country. They understood the conditions better than the other teams. That's the reason they were a bit more successful than others, even in India. This team, particularly, are clueless. They don't have any plans. In the first game, they were clueless. They knew these conditions would be challenging for any batter - the ball will spin from the first ball. It's not something that's started to happen now; it's been happening for the last eight-10 years. In 2012-13, they lost on similar wickets. They were clueless even at that point in time but they fought better than this. But this team, I don't see anyone standing up and taking those challenges and trying to do something different than what others are doing," he added.

Mayank To Lead Rest Of India In Irani Cup vs MP, Sarfaraz Khan Ruled Out

Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal will lead the Rest of India (ROI) team against Madhya Pradesh in the Irani Cup, which will be commencing from 1st of March at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior. Agarwal has been rewarded for being the leading run-scorer of the recently-concluded Ranji Trophy season where he scored 990 runs in 13 innings, with a highest score of 249. Agarwal last featured for India in March 2022 in a Test against Sri Lanka and has since failed to secure his place on the national side. The right-hander is eyeing a comeback after a stellar Ranji season.

Sarfaraz Khan was unavailable for selection owing to a hairline fracture on his left little finger. The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Baba Indrajith as his replacement for the tournament. The Mumbai lad is the most noteworthy exclusion from the 16-member roster.

The Irani Cup venue was shifted to Gwalior from Indore after the third India-Australia Test was assigned to the Holkar Stadium. As a result, the Irani tie had to be moved from its original location. The Irani Cup match will mark Gwalior's return to first-class competition after more than six years.

Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Bengal opener, will partner Agarwal at the top. Abhimanyu, who was a member of the Test squad that travelled to Bangladesh in December, is also hoping to make a breakthrough. He had previously led India A on a shadow tour to Bangladesh when he scored two consecutive hundreds.

The other top-order batsmen on the Rest of India team include Yash Dhull, Sudip Kumar Gharami, Yashasvi Jaiswal, B Indrajith and Sudip Kumar Gharami. With 803 and 798 runs respectively, Gharami and Abhimanyu finished sixth and seventh in the Ranji top run scorers list as Bengal finished as runners-up.

Only two members of Saurashtra's championship-winning team were chosen, left-arm seamer Chetan Sakariya and wicketkeeper-opener Harvik Desai.

A four-man attack featuring Sakariya, Navdeep Saini from Delhi, and Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep from Bengal completes the fast-bowling unit's well-rounded composition. Saini will be making a comeback after suffering an abdominal muscle strain on India A tour to Bangladesh. The only seam-bowling all-rounder in the mix is Atith Sheth of Baroda.

Jalaj Saxena, the Kerala all-rounder, and Shams Mulani, the Mumbai all-rounder, two of the season's top wicket-takers, are not a part of the squad despite having taken 50 and 46 wickets, respectively.

The selection committee, comprising SS Das, S Sharath, Salil Ankola, and Subroto Bannerjee, have picked Saurabh Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, a left-arm spinner, and Mayank Markande of Punjab, a legspinner.

The fact that the selectors are eager to offer opportunities to legspinners in red-ball cricket is probably one of the reasons Markande is still in the running despite having taken only 22 wickets from seven games. Rahul Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi are Markande's closest rivals. While Chahar did not play at all for Rajasthan, Bishnoi only participated in one game.

In the absence of regular captain Aditya Shrivastava, wicketkeeper-batsman Himanshu Mantri will lead Madhya Pradesh. With Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Shubham Sharma, and Yash Dubey all in the mix, the core group that won the Ranji Trophy in June of last year has mostly been retained.

Rest of India squad: Mayank Agarwal (Captain), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, Baba Indrajith, Upendra Yadav(WK), Atit Sheth, Saurabh Kumar, Harvik Desai, Navdeep Saini, Mukesh Kumar, Chetan Sakariya, Akash Deep, Mayank Markande, Pulkit Narang and Sudip Kumar Gharami

Madhya Pradesh squad: Himanshu Mantri (Captain & WK), Rajat Patidar, Yash Dubey, Harsh Gawli, Shubham Sharma, Venkatesh Iyer, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Aman Solanki, Kumar Kartikeya, Saransh Jain, Avesh Khan, Ankit Kushwah, Gaurav Yadav, Anubhav Agarwal and Mihir Hirwani.

South Africa Aim To Launch New Era In Test Series Against West Indies

South Africa's Test series against the West Indies, which starts at SuperSport Park on Tuesday, could hardly be more low-key but it has the potential to launch a new era for the country's Test team. New coach Shukri Conrad has already stamped his authority on the team, appointing Temba Bavuma as the new captain -- the first Black African to skipper the Test team -- and clearing out several players who were found wanting in losing series in England and Australia. The Test series has had minimal build-up in a South African season which has been dominated by Twenty20 cricket.

There was the first SA20 franchise tournament, which was a crowd-pulling success, and the Women's T20 World Cup in which South Africa reached the final, hugely lifting the profile of women's cricket.

The two matches against the West Indies are the only two Tests scheduled for the South African summer after Cricket South Africa took a decision to prioritise the SA20.

The series is part of the World Test championship but South Africa are no longer in contention for a place in the final after being heavily beaten in Australia, which in turn was followed by India climbing up the standings in their home series against the Australians.

Unlike the white ball games, the series is not expected to pack the grounds in Centurion and Johannesburg.

With the first Test starting on a Tuesday and the second on a Wednesday - and given the trend for matches to end in three or four days - there are no guarantees that there will be any significant action over the weekends.

Nor does the prospect of a series against the West Indies stir the blood as it did in the days of the teams led by Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards.

Since falling victim to the pace duo of Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose in 1992, in their first Test after 22 years of political isolation, South Africa have dominated against the players from the Caribbean.

South Africa have won 20 and lost only two of 29 Tests against West Indies since the capitulation at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The current tour of South Africa is the first by the West Indies since 2014/15.

Kraigg Brathwaite's tourists arrived after a series in Zimbabwe where the first Test was drawn and West Indies won the second by an innings, with left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie returning match figures of 13 for 99.

Motie, 27, who was playing in his third Test match, is unlikely to find conditions helpful in either venue, even though South Africa's batting has been fragile in recent series.

Conrad signalled an intention to play aggressive cricket by selecting stroke-playing batsmen like Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton and new cap Tony de Zorzi, as well as giving the wicketkeeping gloves to the hard-hitting Heinrich Klaasen.

The West Indies opening pair of Brathwaite and Tagenerine Chanderpaul will have an important role to play against what is expected to be a pace battery, likely to include 22-year-old tearaway Gerald Coetzee.

Test squads:

South Africa: Temba Bavuma (captain), Gerald Coetzee, Tony de Zorzi, Dean Elgar, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen (wkt), Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Anrich Nortje, Keegan Petersen, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton

West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Alick Athanaze, Jermaine Blackwood, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Roston Chase, Joshua da Silva (wkt), Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Akeem Jordan, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach, Devon Thomas

Tour fixtures:

February 28-March 4, First Test, Centurion

March 8-12, Second Test, Johannesburg

March 16, First ODI, East London

March 18, Second ODI, East London

March 21, Third ODI, Potchefstroom

March 25, First T20I, Centurion

March 26, Second T20I, Centurion

Watch: Shaheen Afridi Breaks Bat, Shatters Stumps On First Two Deliveries

Pakistan pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi truly seems to be returning to his best, with his exploits in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday, Shaheen produced two rattling deliveries that left the cricket world stunned. On the first delivery, Shaheen broke the bat of Peshawar batter Mohammad Haris. Just as Haris was preparing to face Shaheen's fiery pace, the left-arm seamer dismissed him clean bowled on the very next delivery.

Shaheen has been going from strength to strength in the PSL and he blew fire in the very first over of the innings against Zalmi. Bowling his first delivery of the over, Shaheen broke Haris' bat into two pieces before sending him packing. Here's the video:

In his third over Shaheen also dismissed Babar Azam, sending the stalwart back to the hut for a meager score of 7 runs.

Earlier with the bat, Lahore put up a gigantic score of 241 runs on the board, with Fakhar Zaman (96 off 45), Abdullah Shafique (75 off 41) and Sam Billings (47 off 23) scoring the bulk of the runs.

The Shaheen vs Babar battle was already gaining a lot of traction before the match had begun. In the match, fair to say that Shaheen won the contest convincingly.

When Babar Azam was asked about his battle with Shaheen, the talismanic batter had given floored the entire media room with his response.

“Babar, you always meet everyone with a smiling face but tomorrow you face Shaheen Shah Afridi,” the reporter had said before Babar interrupted.

"To to kar milein unhein? Kya kare, nahi khele fir? Aap bataye…(Should I cry and meet him, or should I not play? Please tell me...)," Babar said in response as everyone started to laugh.

At the peak of his powers, Ishant Sharma could win matches on his own. Over the years, Ishant has done wonders in the teams he has played. But, as the professional career of a cricketer goes, Ishant has also had his fair share of ups and downs. Sharing the story of one such incident, Ishant recalled how he handled the 'lowest moment of his career' in 2013. It was the likes of MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan who helped the lanky pacer recover from that 'absolute low'.

"My lowest moment was that 2013 match in Mohali against Australia. I don't know if I could ever have a moment worse than that because I was...I don't know. It was very tough for me. And it wasn't because I gave away a lot of runs. The thing that hurt me the most was I was the reason behind the team's loss. I was dating my wife at that time and I just spoke to her and I think I just cried for almost a month. I used to call her every day and cry over the phone saying that team lost because of me," he said on Cricbuzz's 'Rise of New India' show.

Ishant revealed how Dhoni and Dhawan came to his room and gave him words of encouragement. But, the pacer also conceded the match gave everyone the perception that he isn't a good white-ball bowler.

"The good thing that happened was Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) came to my room and Shikhar (Dhawan), who was playing that game, also came and said, 'Look you have been doing well (Dekh, tu acha khel raha hai).' Because of that one match there became a perception that I am not a white-ball bowler," he added.

Ishant last played for India in 2016 and has since been not considered for selection in any of the three formats.

Meg Lanning Surpasses Ponting, MS Dhoni To Claim Huge Captaincy Record

Australian skipper Meg Lanning now has the highest number of major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies as a captain in the history of the sport. Lanning accomplished this milestone during her side's ICC Women's T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Sunday. In the match, after posting 156/6 in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss, the Aussies were able to defend the total and keep South Africa away from their first-ever world title across men's and women's senior teams, defeating them by 19 runs.

Lanning as a skipper has won a total of five tournaments. These tournaments include the 2022 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup and 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023 editions of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. This makes her the most decorated captain in the history of the sport.

Behind Lanning is her compatriot and legendary Australian batter Ricky Ponting, who took his side to new heights in men's cricket. Under his leadership, Australia won four major titles, which includes two back-to-back ICC Cricket World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007 and ICC Champions Trophy wins in 2006 and 2009.

At the third position is legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter and captain MS Dhoni, who is the only captain to win all three major ICC tournaments. Under his leadership, India won the first-ever ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. They followed it by winning their second ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, bringing the trophy back home after 28 years. India's last triumph under his captaincy was the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, which also remains the final major ICC title India has won to this day.

Australia has won its 21st title in their rich cricketing history.

The women's side has captured the 50-over World Cup seven times, in the years 1978, 1982, 1988, 1997, 2005, 2013, 2022. It has also captured six T20 World Cup titles, in years 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023. This makes it 13 title wins in women's cricket.

The Australian men's team also has had a lot of success. It has won the 50-over World Cup five times, in years, 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015. It also won its solitary ICC Men's T20 World Cup title in 2021. It has also won two ICC Champions Trophy titles, in 2006 and 2009. This makes it a total of eight titles in men's cricket.

Coming to Lanning, she had a solid tournament with the bat, scoring 149 runs in five innings at an average of 49.66. Her highest individual score in the tournament is 49*.

Why Did Australia Tests Finish In 3 Days? Fan Asks. R Ashwin Explains

India defeated Australia by 6 wickets in the second Test match in New Delhi to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The hosts now lead the series 2-0 after registering convincing wins in the first two matches. Australia, who had failed to give a fight to India in the Nagpur Test, did improve a bit but couldn't prevent a loss. Results of both the matches came within three days.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed an interesting conversation with a fan, who asked him why both the matches ended within three days.

"One of the guys who traveled with me on the flight was like, 'Why did you guys finish the Test match in just three days? I feel bad'. I replied, 'Sir, two things have changed. One is the mentality of the cricketers. They wanna play fast-paced these days. They wanna score runs quickly'," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

"Cricketers these days don't wanna take time and then score runs. But just because of that, we should not compare both approaches and judge who is better. We should never compare across generations. Secondly, both of these games shouldn't have ended in 3 days," he added.

The third Test between India and Australia kicks off on March 1 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

India's squads for the third and fourth Tests against Australia remains unchanged. Jaydev Unadkat, who was released from the squad to participate in the Ranji Trophy final, is back in the squad for the remaining Tests.

KL Rahul, who was named vice-captain for the first two Tests, has been retained in the squad, despite disappointing show with the bat in the first two Tests. While in the first two Test Rahul was the designated vice-captain, in the third and fourth Tests there is no designated vice-captain, according to a BCCI release.

"Bring In Someone...": Harbhajan Demands Separate T20 Coach For Team India

India won the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in the year 2008. Since then, the side has entered the final of the event only once in 2014 where it lost to Sri Lanka. Barring the two editions, India have struggled to live up to the expectations at the global event. In the latest edition that took place in 2022, India were eliminated in the semi-final after being outplayed by England by 10 wickets. Amid the struggles of the Indian men's cricket team, former spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested that the team could appoint a designated T20 coach, saying that another coach could take the responsibility of the team in other formats.

"Yes, you have two captains, so you can have two coaches. Why not? Someone whose planning is different. Like England has done with Brendon McCullum. Someone like Virender Sehwag or Ashish Nehra who worked with Gujarat Titans and Hardik Pandya won his first tournament (IPL) as captain. So, bring someone who understands the concept of T20 and demands of the game.

The coach knows that focus is on T20 cricket. Say if Ashish Nehra is the T20 coach, then he knows that his job is to make the Indian team champions in the T20 format, and Rahul Dravid knows he has to work on how the Indian team can be No.1 in Tests and ODIs," Harbhajan said during an Idea Exchange session of The Indian Express.

After their disappointment in 2022 T20 World Cup, reports have emerged that Team India is looking at the pool of young players for the 2024 world event that is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and United States. Reports also state that the team management is eyeing Hardik Pandya as the long-term skipper in the shortest format for India.

"You Will Falter": Star India Spinner Gives Honest Verdict On 'Bazball'

England have been trying to adapt a style of fast-paced batting called ‘Bazball' for quite some time. The style, which is named after their head coach Brendon McCullum, has seen batsmen scoring runs at extremely quick speeds in Test matches and it has resulted in some brilliant wins against Pakistan and New Zealand. However, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did not sound quite convinced with the aggressive style of batting and said that it will surely falter in certain kind of conditions.

“We now have a concept called Bazball. England is playing high-paced Test match cricket. They want to play a certain style of cricket. But in certain types of wicket, when you try and attack every ball, you will falter. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this approach,” Ashwin said.

“Some will ask instead of defending and getting all out for 100, I will slog it out and get all out for 140. We will only know when the game pans out that the approach works or not. Sometimes, on the wicket, conditions need to be respected. If you respect the pitch and play accordingly, the pitch will also respect you. If you respect the pitch, it will pay you dividends,” the veteran spinner explained.

Ashwin, who has been one of India's go-to bowlers in the two Test matches against Australia so far, hasn't failed in weaving his magic on the 22-yard strip. Ashwin and Jadeja have bowled in tandem to give India a 2-0 lead in the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In fact, Jadeja broke into the top 10 of the ICC Test bowler rankings after his brilliant showing in the first two Tests against Australia. The left-arm bowler is the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar series with 17 wickets from the two Tests and has galloped to the ninth spot in the bowling rankings. Jadeja is the third Indian in the top 10 with Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah being the other two.

Ashwin, at the moment, occupies the second spot with 40-year-old James Anderson occupying the pole position. Considering the momentum with which Ashwin is playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Anderson's spot at the summit position is under threat by Ashwin.

"Lack Of Application, Discipline": Ravi Shastri On Australia's Poor Show

Former India head coach and all-rounder Ravi Shastri said on Saturday that Australian batters' lack of application has let them down in the ongoing Test series. He added that Australia lacked belief in their own defence and need to go back to basics ahead of the third Test at Indore. The third Test between India and Australia will take place from March 1 in Indore. Australia trail by 2-0 in the series and have disappointed with the bat in both the matches.

"I think application (has let them down) more than anything else. The lack of belief in their own defence," Shastri said in the latest edition of ICC Review. "The lack of application and the lack of discipline was unreal and Australia paid for it big time," added the former India coach.

Shastri believes Australia's batters should look to occupy the crease during the remaining Test matches, rather than using the aggressive approach that has proved their downfall so far.

"It is very important to go back to the basics, go back to the drawing board. If you don't trust your defence, you have no chance because that is when you entertain thoughts of breaking free, much quicker than you normally should," said Shastri.

"Sometimes you have got to spend some time at the crease, but how are you going to spend some time at the crease if you do not trust your defence? But I did not see one Australian batsman (do that). What surprised me was some of their most senior players also came out there and looked to do things out of the ordinary, something they are not used to far quicker than later. And especially in conditions that suit the Indians. So I think it is patience, it is application, it is discipline and trusting your defence," the former Indian coach concluded his point.

Australia need to avoid a 4-0 series whitewash to book their place at the ICC World Test Championship final in London and there is every chance they could face India again in that one-off Test match with the lure of claiming the coveted mace.

Shastri knows the conditions in England will be vastly different to those the teams are currently facing in India but believes his former side will obtain an important mental edge should they win the next two Test matches on home soil.

"A 4-0 win here psychologically does send a strong signal to the opposition," Shastri noted.

"There will be an impact, but conditions are different as Australia will have their fast bowlers back as a lot of them are injured. But that psychological dent will make India believe that, even in those conditions, they are good enough to upstage Australia," concluded Shastri.

"Jadeja And...": Ex BCCI Selector Picks India's Vice-Captaincy Candidates

With a few days to go for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, the Indian cricket team faces a few questions. The most prominent being the place of opener KL Rahul in the XI. The star batter has scored only 38 in the first two Tests. Former players, including Venkatesh Prasad, has been questioning why Rahul has been getting a long rope. With a highest score of 23 in his last 10 Test innings, Rahul's place is under scrutiny as India chase a third successive victory that would seal their place in the final of the World Test Championship in June.

In the midst of this, Rahul, the designated vice-captain of the Indian team in the first two Tests, no longer holds the title for the final two Tests. Ex-BCCI selector Saba Karim pointed out the reason on why Rahul was removed from vice-captaincy.

"His performance has not been great and that's why he has been removed from vice-captaincy. This does not mean that he will not be played in the XI. This only means that you become the vice-captain, when your performance is good. Suppose the Indian team was losing, there would have been no hesitation in dropping KL Rahul. But because the team is winning, and because the wickets are tough to bat on, Rahul will get few more opportunities," Saba Karim said on India News Sports.

When asked, who can become the next vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Karim said: "Several factors should be kept in mind while choosing the next vice-captain. Age etc. because the guy has to lead India in the World Test Championship cycle. Currently, I feel there are two candidates - Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant. But Jadeja's workload is huge. Maybe the team management is waiting for Pant to regain fitness, after the accident that he suffered."

"I See 4-0...": Sourav Ganguly Predicts India's Clean Sweep vs Australia

India have dominated Australia in  the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far. After easy wins in the first two Tests, which the hosts achieved in less than three days on both occasions, the third Test starts in Indore on March 1. The Australian team has been dealt with several blows owing to injuries while their regular captain Pat Cummins too will not be available for the third Test as he has gone back home due to his mother's illness. Amidst this, former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has predicted that Australia will be clean-sweept.

"I see 4-0. It will be hard for Australia to beat India. In these conditions, we are a far superior team," Ganguly was quoted as saying to Rev Sportz.

Meanwhile, citing Mike Tyson, Australian great Greg Chappell has slammed the team's forgettable performance in the first two Tests against India, saying the visitors "punched themselves in the mouth long before the first ball was even bowled".

Australia have already conceded the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after being hammered in the first two Tests of the four-match series, both games ending under three days and prompting sharp reactions from the country's former cricketers.

"It was Mike Tyson who said in the lead-up to a fight with Evander Holyfield: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

"My concern after watching the first two Tests is that the Australian team punched themselves in the mouth long before the first ball was even bowled," Chappell wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald.

He has also questioned Australia's planning for the ongoing tour of the country.

"It is one thing to plan, but to base that plan on a flawed premise is an exercise in futility," he added.

2nd Test: James Anderson Puts England In Control Against New Zealand

James Anderson validated his elevation to top spot in the world Test bowling rankings with a lethal opening spell as England took full control of the second Test against New Zealand on Saturday. Veteran seamer Anderson snared 3-37, sending the Black Caps crashing to 138-7 when rain forced an early end to day two in Wellington, after England declared their first innings at 435-8. Spinner Jack Leach also took three scalps, leaving New Zealand staring at a 297-run deficit with three days remaining.

Red-hot England are on course for a sweep of the two-match series, having won the first Test by 267 runs at Mount Maunganui with the same mix of aggressive batting and potent new-ball bowling.

Joe Root was unbeaten on 153 when captain Ben Stokes made his assertive declaration, leaving the tourists half an hour to attack the Black Caps top order before lunch.

Anderson answered the call, removing Devon Conway (0) and Kane Williamson (4) to have the hosts languishing at 12-2.

The exacting paceman removed Will Young (2) after the break to underscore why he'd been reinstated to No 1 in the ICC player rankings released this week - the oldest player to hold the perch, at 40.

All three batsmen feathered edges to gloveman Ben Foakes, extending the number of Test victims caught by a wicketkeeper off Anderson to 188 - 36 more than any other bowler.

Left-handers Tom Latham (35) and Henry Nicholls (30) launched a rearguard but both fell when attempting to reverse-sweep Leach (3-45), offering catches to fielders around the bat.

First-Test centurion Tom Blundell head reached 25 not out before play was called off at 5.45 pm (0445 GMT), and his free-wheeling captain Tim Southee was unbeaten on 23 -- in an innings featuring two sixes.

About 25 overs were lost to the late rain, mirroring the premature finish to day one when the clouds opened.

However, England still have ample time to push for a seventh straight Test win and consign New Zealand to an eighth successive winless Test.

Earlier, England lost five wickets and racked up a further 120 runs in an entertaining opening session after resuming at 315-3.

Harry Brook fell in the third over for 186, having added just two to his overnight score.

His blazing knock formed part of a 302-run stand with Root - the second-highest in England's Test history against New Zealand - having rescued the tourists from 21-3 early on day one.

Root effortlessly advanced from his overnight 101 to surpass 150 for the 14th time in his career.

The 32-year-old received lively support from Stokes -- who blasted 27 off 28 balls -- Stuart Broad (14) and Ollie Robinson (18).

Root struck 10 fours and three sixes, including a reverse ramp shot that cleared the boundary rope off the fourth ball he faced on Saturday, from Southee.

Seamer Matt Henry took the key wicket of Brook, holding onto a sharp caught-and-bowled chance, to return 4-100.

"Delusional Superstar": Ramiz Slams Shoaib Akhtar For Targetting Babar

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has lashed out at Shoaib Akhtar, following his comments on star batter Babar Azam. During a recent appearance on a local news channel, Akhtar had criticised Babar's communications, saying that the Pakistan captain can't speak English properly. The 47-year-old faced a lot of flak for his comments on Babar, as well as former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal. Raja labelled Akhtar a "delusional superstar", adding that it is more important to become a human first than a brand.

"Shoaib Akhtar is a delusional superstar. He also had an issue recently with Kamran Akmal. He wants everyone to become a brand, but it is more important to become a human first. First, become a human and then a brand. Our former players degrade our cricket brand by giving delusional statements. You will never see that happening in our neighbouring country. You will never see Sunil Gavaskar criticizing Rahul Dravid. It only happens in Pakistan, where former players don't let others do their job professionally," Ramiz said on Bol News.

On being asked about Akthar's aspiration to become the chairman of PCB, Raja said that the former speedster first need to get a degree.

"He needs to get a graduate degree first in order to become eligible for the chairmanship of PCB," Ramiz added.

Akhtar, who made his Pakistan debut in 1997, only played 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is. His career was marred with injuries.

He retired from international cricket after the 2011 World Cup. Post-retirement, he began a YouTube career by starting his own channel, where he gives unfiltered reviews on various cricket related topics.

"We Have Respect": Ex-Pakistan Star On Asia Cup Host Venue Confusion

The confusion over the host venue of the 2023 Asia Cup still remains. Pakistan were originally accorded the host status. However, after BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) head, said last year that India won't travel to Pakistan, there is confusion over the status of the continental event. According to a report in news agency PTI, in a possible solution to the Asia Cup logjam, Pakistan may remain the host and India could be offered to play its matches in the UAE where some games will be held, according to sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In such a scenario, the UAE will also host the final if India qualifies for it, according to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) source.

An emergent meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was held in Bahrain on February 4 at the behest of PCB chief Najam Sethi after the continental body released its itinerary and Pakistan wasn't named the hosts of the tournament.

Now, former Pakistan player Kamran Akmal has said that though players of his nation have received love from Indian fans, the side should not travel for the 2023 World Cup in India if the team does not come for the Asia Cup.

"If India do not agree to come for the Asia Cup, we should not go to India to play the 2023 World Cup there. It's not in our hands, whatever ICC decides or the PCB...lekin Hamaari bhi respect hai (we also have respect). We have been world champions too, the Pakistan team, have topped rankings in all formats and have won the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup. This is not in the hands of the ICC, PCB or the BCCI. This is between two governments. Until they are on the same page, the teams won't go near each other. We have to see how long it goes," Akmal said on 'Nadir Ali Podcast'.

The Asia Cup was initially allotted to Pakistan and was scheduled in September this year but BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the ACC chairman, had announced last October that India will not travel to Pakistan.

India Star Said "Mujhe Virat Ki Tarah Banna Hai". Bharat Arun's Response

There's no denying Virat Kohli's stature. The superstar batter has done wonders for the Indian cricket team over the years, establishing his stature as one of the finest in the world. It isn't just India where Virat enjoys a terriric fan-following but also outside the globe. Not just that, even some of Kohli's teammates are his fans, and an epic story of one such fan was narrated by India's former bowling coach Bharat Arun. And, that player was none other than pacer Mohammed Siraj.

Siraj entered the Indian team having already played under the captaincy of Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was there that the pacer had a chat with Arun, revealing how much he admired the then-franchise skipper Kohli.

"Siraj was Virat's biggest fan. After the first season with RCB, he came and told me 'Sir, mujhe Virat ki tarah banna hai (Sir, I want to be like Virat)," Arun revealed on Cricbuzz Special show 'The Rise of New India'.

"I think it was the hunger in him; he had seen what Virat has achieved. So I told him 'Agar Virat ki tarah banna hai, toh phir uski tarah bohut kuch sacrific karna padega (If you want to be like Virat, then like him, you'll have to sacrifice a lot of things)," he added.

It is quite common for budding batters to look up to Virat Kohli and say that they want to be like him. But for a bowler to say so, it was unique. But, that also highlights the impact Virat can have on a player, not just with his batting but his mindset.

But, when Siraj told Arun he wanted to be like Kohli, the former India bowling coach knew the iconic batter had a big influence on the pacer.

"In bowling, you can be somebody who can be remembered. He said 'No sir, I will do whatever it takes because I want to emulate him'. So the fact that he was such a Virat fan-boy and later on, getting to play under him and alongside him had a great influence on Mohammed Siraj," he further said.

Watch: Anjum Chopra's Gesture As Harmanpreet Kaur Cries Inconsolably

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was distraught after her side narrowly lost out to Australia in the semi-final of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup on Thursday. Harmanpreet's bizarre run out was the talking point of the match as it proved to be a game-changer. During the post-match presentation, an emotional Harmanpreet wore glasses to hide her tears. She later had to be consoled by former India player Anjum Chopra, who went on to hug Harmanpreet. On being asked about the incident and her gesture for Harmanpreet, Anjum said she was just trying to "lessen the sorrow"

"My intention was to give the captain some empathy because that's all I can offer from the outside. It was an emotional moment for both of us. India have reached the semi-finals a lot of times and they have lost. This is not the first time I've seen Harmanpreet bat like this. I have seen her battling her injuries and health Today she might not have even played but because this was a World Cup semi-final and because she was Harmanpreet Kaur," Anjum said in a video shared by ICC.

"She is not the one who takes a backward step; she will go forward and a backward step, she will go forward and she did that. Today, before the match started, she was able to bring herself to a situation where she can play. She ran around in the field for 20 overs and then while batting, she rekindled India's hopes. Of course, Jemimah Rodrigues also played her part. I can understand what Harmanpreet Kaur must be going through. It was a player-to-player moment with her. I was just trying to lessen her sorrow," she added.

In the final, Australia posted a huge total of 172/4 in 20 overs after Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning smashed 54 and 49* runs respectively.

Later, Team India lost three wickets within four overs but Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues brought a ray of hope for their side.

However, India fell short by five runs and Australia reached into their seventh straight final in the history of the Women's T20 World Cups.

Pat Cummins Won't Return To India For Third Test, Steve Smith May Lead

Australia captain Pat Cummins will miss the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, which is scheduled to beging in Indore from March 1. Cummins, who flew home to Sydney following Australia's defeat in the second Test due to his mother's illness, was expected to return to India for the third Test beginning Wednesday. However, the 29-year-old has confirmed that he would not be available for the Indore Test due to his mother's illness. In his absence, Steve Smith is expected to lead the series.

"I have decided against returning to India at this time. I feel I am best being here with my family," Cummins was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

"I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received from Cricket Australia and my teammates. Thanks for your understanding," he added.

With a nine-day break between Tests following the three-day finish in Delhi, it was expected that Cummins would rejoin the team ahead of the third Test.

Smith, on the other hand, spent four days in Dubai with his wife Dani following the second Test before re-joining the Australia squad in Delhi on Thursday evening.

He might lead Australia for the third time since his reinstatement as vice-captain in late 2021 when Cummins took over leadership from Tim Paine.

Australia trail India 0-2 in the four-match series, following crushing defeats in Nagpur and Delhi, respectively.

The 33-year-old was the captain when Australia last toured India in 2017. The visitors had lost the series 2-1.

Star pacer Mitchell Starc, who missed the first two Tests, ould be a direct replacement for Cummins in Indore.

"We Stand With You": Jay Shah After Team India's Semi-Final Heartbreak

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah lauded Team India for their efforts against Australia in the semi-finals of ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023 despite suffering a heartbreaking defeat against Aussies by 5-runs on Thursday. India's wait for a world title continued as they succumbed to a heartbreaking five-run loss to Australia in the semifinal of the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup on Thursday, where nerves of Aussies prevailed over top knocks from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. Australia are through to the finals. They will play either England or South Africa in the summit clash.

'There Are Two Titles": Gavaskar's Special Request For Rohit Sharma And Co

Indian cricket team legend Sunil Gavaskar said on Thursday that he would like Rohit Sharma & Co to win the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023. Team India has performed brilliantly in the ongoing Test series against Australia by winning the first two matches comfortably. Another victory for the team in the remaining two matches will book their spot in the WTC final. On the other hand, India will once again be looking to win the ODI World Cup title as the tournament's host nation.

“When you see a champion being felicitated, you also want to be one. And when your athletes are improving their personal bests, that is when you know everything is on the right track. There are two titles that I'd like the Indian men's team to win — one is the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup is the other. There is, of course, the Asia Cup in between these two. If that comes back to India, nothing quite like it," Gavaskar told Sportstar in a recent interaction.

Earlier, Gavaskar criticised ex-Pakistan cricketers for constantly criticising Indian players.

"What the following for the game also does is to make the media, especially the online media, look to get more eyeballs or followers and so anything to do with cricket and especially about Indian players gets into the public domain even if it actually belittles them. That's the sad part especially when the views of those across the border get online in the Indian media. It's almost a daily thing to hear some former player from across the border pulling down an Indian player and saying the Pakistani player is better. What these guys know is that they will immediately get a response from the Indian fans who will defend their favourite player and in doing so, increasing the followers of the former player from across the border," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.
